George St. Pierre vs Dan Hardy UFC 111

April 4th, 2010 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2010, Dan Hardy, George St. Pierre, MMA, Sports, UFC

George St. Pierre vs Dan Hardy UFC 111Is George St. Pierre too nice for MMA? Or did the UFC ask him to drag out this easy victory by stretching the fight a full 5 rounds. THE BREAKDOWN: Dan Hardy hit George St. Pierre once with an ineffective straight right. One touch, that’s it! So much for Dan Hardy’s theory of connection. George St. Pierre landed more strikes in their less than 2 minutes of stand-up, and George St. Pierre had several easy take downs each round. Dan Hardy could not defend the shot. On the ground George St. Pierre did nothing. He crawled lazily over a purple belt in jiu-jitsu, and he threw less than a dozen ground strikes in the entire fight. It appeared St. Pierre did not want to finish the fight.  George  St. Pierre’s ground and pound was never displayed against Dan Hardy as it was against BJ Penn and Matt Serra, both of whom are well qualified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts. George St. Pierre dominated them too, yet no finish.

What’s the fuck, George? 25 minutes later Canada’s own, George St. Pierre, won a unanimous decision over England’s previously undefeated middle weight hero, Dan Hardy. Hats off to Dan Hardy for surviving valiantly and escaping two scary looking submission attempts,  George St. Pierre’s armbar and kimura. Truth be told, George St. Pierre could’ve finished this fight at any time, he just didn’t!

George St. Pierre vs Nick Diaz

February 8th, 2010 by Brotherlove | 1 Comment | Filed in 2010, George St. Pierre, MMA, Nick Diaz, Strikeforce, UFC

George St. Pierre vs Nick Diaz isn’t likely to happen. George St. Pierre is the UFC welterweight champion ranked #1 in the world. Nick Diaz is the Strikeforce welterweight champion, ranked 3rd in the world, according to FightMagazine.com. I doubt the organizations will unify the title belts by putting there champions to the test. In my opinion, Nick Diaz wins by submission or TKO do to punches. If George St. Pierre wins, it’ll be a slow process with George St. Pierre controlling the ground game with his wrestling, but he’ll be unable to submit/finish Nick Diaz. It’ll go to the judges.

Both George St. Pierre (above) and Nick Diaz (below) have faced the highest caliber of MMA competition, and both have persevered. George St. Pierre has wins over, BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, and several others, while Nick Diaz has wins over Robbie Lawler, Takanori Gomi, Frank Shamrock, and Scott Smith.

Nick Diaz vs George St. Pierre would be a dream fight should it ever occur. According to FightMagazine.com these are the current, MMA Welterweight (170) Rankings. Without a doubt, I’m sure this fight will never occur. The UFC likes to shelter it’s poster boys. My money’s on Nick Diaz.

Saturday January 30, 2010, Robbie Lawler Knocks Out Melvin Manhoef in the first round of their Strikeforce middle weight bout. After taking a severe beating by Melvin Manhoef’s wicked leg kicks, it appeared Robbie Lawler might not make it out of the first round.

Then WHAMMO!!!! A hard overhand right hit the chin of Melvin Manhoef and was followed with a left hook to the face, Melvin Manhoef was already plummeting to the canvas and was knocked out before he hit it. Forced to jump in front of a knocked-out-cold, with his eyes unblinking and wide open, the referee stopped the fight with 1:29 to go in the first round. Stiff as a board, Melvin Manhoef did not get up for some time. Robbie Lawler was victorious!

Dropping to the canvas like a sack of potatoes, Marius Zaromskis lands on his back and is smothered by the ref who calls the stoppage.

BELOW: Marius Zaromskis, was my first pic to fight George St. Pierre. Marius is a title holder and a tournament champion, I thought he might beat up Nick Diaz. DAMN! Brotherlove was wrong!  Nick Diaz threw several impressive combinations, with several punches landing. It was a short right hook that rocked Marius on the chin. Marius Zaromskis was completely out classed.

Rashad Evans VS Thiago Silva

January 3rd, 2010 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2010, MMA, Rashad Evans, Thiago Silva, UFC

Rashad Evans VS Thiago Silva, UFC 108, Fight Video is worth the purchase. I have to eat me words and admit UFC 108 was a worthy card. All the fights were competetive or ended with a great finish. Unfortunately the main event between Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva, was the only snoozer. Both these light heavyweight fighters should have finished the fight. UFC 108 undercards were far more enthusiastic.

Rashad Evans VS Thiago Silva

January 3rd, 2010 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2010, MMA, Rashad Evans, Thiago Silva, UFC

Rashad Evans VS Thiago Silva, UFC 108, January 10, 2009. HAPPY NEW YEAR is not quite the way 2010 started for Light-Heavyweight Thiago Silva. Too little too late is the Brazilians nickname in this fight. An unfortunate decision favoring his opponent, Rashad Evans, earns Thiago Silva a second loss in his MMA career. I personally feel that this fight should not have been decided on, by the judges. Both Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva should have fought for a finish. The fans got gypped.

Scott Smith KOs Cung Lee

December 24th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Brotherlove, Cung Le, MMA, Scott Smith, Strikeforce

Scott Smith KOs Cung Lee. An unbelievable finish to an action packed fight. Cung Le dominated Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith for the entirety of their 3-round middle weight Strikeforce MMA bout. Cung Le dropped Scott Smith several times, and tossed him around in his expert Sanshou fashion.

Strikeforce-Evolution-poster

Scott Smith was getting owned by Cung Le, but Scott Smith never gives up. Continuing to press Cung Le, and continuing to march forward, Scott Smith persevered. Scott Smith delivered a left hook to the chin of Cung Le, dropping Cung Le to the mat. Following up with several punches to the face, referee John McCarthy was forced to stop Scott Smith’s ground and pound onslaught. Cung Le was defeated, and knocked out for the first time ever.

CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT SMITH, and CONGRATULATIONS STRIKEFORCE. I’m looking forward to more great Strikforce cards. And I can’t wait to see what other amazing fighters Strikeforce acquires. It’s a matter of time before Strikeforce calls out UFC for the best MMA fighters in the world.

BJ Penn: Unstoppable at 155 Lightweight Division

December 13th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, BJ Penn, MMA, Shinya Aoki

BJ Penn could’ve easily finished Diego Sanchez in the first round of his lightweight title defense in UFC 107. Instead, BJ Penn decided to take his time and pick his shots. Sadly and shocking to most, the fight wasn’t remotely competitive. BJ Penn was untouched by Diego Sanchez in all 5 title rounds. In fact, BJ Penn made Diego Sanchez look like he never fought a day in his life.

BJ-Penn-UFC-Lightweight-Champion-of-the-World

According to several sources, the Worlds best MMA Lightweights (155lbs limit) are #1 Lightweight Fighter in the World: B.J. Penn, Shinya Aoki, Eddie Alvarez, Tatsuya Kawajiri,  Kenny Florian, Joachim Hansen, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, Frankie Edgar, Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk, Josh Thompson, Satoru Kitaoka, and Gray Maynard.

I’d pay to see BJ Penn beat up Shinya Aoki (not in the UFC), but I wouldn’t waste my money on Frankie Edgard or Gray Maynard. Dana White is absolutely right to make BJ Penn work through the welterweights for another title shot at George St. Pierre. However, if BJ Penn is forced to fight at 155, it would truly be a waste of everyone’s time and BJ’s talent.

JAKE SHIELDS vs JASON MILLER

November 11th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Jake Shields, Jason Miller, MMA

A fantastic title match-up! Strikeforce knows how to pick perfect competetors. Jeremy Miller “the unsubmittable” vs Jake Shields “Mr. Submission” himself. Admittedly the fight is boring. Jake Shields used his wrestling to smother Jeremy Miller’s superior stand-up game. Shields dominated the fight with his control, positioning, and perseverance, but like most wrestlers Shields couldn’t finish the fight. A unanimous decision victory earning him the title belt. Shields was heckled by the crowd with boos for his lackluster win.

Jake-Shields-MMA

Even in defeat, Jason “Mayhem” Miller won the hearts of the crowd. He attempted several stand-up combo’s that landed, but were smothered my Jake Shields take downs. Submission attempts were dodged and reversed several times by Miller. Ground and pound did not occur because of the devensive skills of Miller. Most impressively however, Miller had several take downs, and a never before seen rear-naked-choke attempt on Shields. Sheilds who was saved by the bell.
