BJ Penn: Unstoppable at 155 Lightweight Division

December 13th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, BJ Penn, MMA, Shinya Aoki

BJ Penn could’ve easily finished Diego Sanchez in the first round of his lightweight title defense in UFC 107. Instead, BJ Penn decided to take his time and pick his shots. Sadly and shocking to most, the fight wasn’t remotely competitive. BJ Penn was untouched by Diego Sanchez in all 5 title rounds. In fact, BJ Penn made Diego Sanchez look like he never fought a day in his life.

According to several sources, the Worlds best MMA Lightweights (155lbs limit) are #1 Lightweight Fighter in the World: B.J. Penn, Shinya Aoki, Eddie Alvarez, Tatsuya Kawajiri,  Kenny Florian, Joachim Hansen, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, Frankie Edgar, Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk, Josh Thompson, Satoru Kitaoka, and Gray Maynard.

I’d pay to see BJ Penn beat up Shinya Aoki (not in the UFC), but I wouldn’t waste my money on Frankie Edgard or Gray Maynard. Dana White is absolutely right to make BJ Penn work through the welterweights for another title shot at George St. Pierre. However, if BJ Penn is forced to fight at 155, it would truly be a waste of everyone’s time and BJ’s talent.

K1 Fields Grand Prix Championship Tournament 2009

December 12th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Alistair Overeem, Badr Hari, Errol Zimmerman, Ewerton Teixeira, Jerome Le Banner, K-1, Remy Bonjasky, Ruslan Karaev, Semmy Schilt

One of the greatest sports happenings of all times is the K-1 Finales each year in December. The Japanese definitely know how to put a fight card together. This kick boxing tournament is the most true and competitive finals in all of sports. This years 2009 Grand Prix Champion is Semmy Schilt, number four.

Semmy-Schilt-K-1

Each of these amazing world title holders could easily finish as the tournament winner.  Badr Hari is my favorite, and was my pick to win. Many people suspected Remy Bonjasky could do it again for the eighth time. Then again Semmy Schilt has proven champion three times, including a win over Remy. Alistair Overeem has beat down a few of these guys, and so has Ruslan Karaev.

In K-1 kick boxing the fights are so evenly matched, it seems every fighter has won and lost to each of the respective fighters. I love that these guys are fearless, and continue to battle where most would give up.  Errol Zimmerman, Jerome Le Banner, and Ewerton Teixeira, had also proven themselves to be worthy of a chance at the throne. The best eight in the world. This might as well be the UEFA Champions League.

JAKE SHIELDS vs JASON MILLER

November 11th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Jake Shields, Jason Miller, MMA

A fantastic title match-up! Strikeforce knows how to pick perfect competetors. Jeremy Miller “the unsubmittable” vs Jake Shields “Mr. Submission” himself. Admittedly the fight is boring. Jake Shields used his wrestling to smother Jeremy Miller’s superior stand-up game. Shields dominated the fight with his control, positioning, and perseverance, but like most wrestlers Shields couldn’t finish the fight. A unanimous decision victory earning him the title belt. Shields was heckled by the crowd with boos for his lackluster win.

Even in defeat, Jason “Mayhem” Miller won the hearts of the crowd. He attempted several stand-up combo’s that landed, but were smothered my Jake Shields take downs. Submission attempts were dodged and reversed several times by Miller. Ground and pound did not occur because of the devensive skills of Miller. Most impressively however, Miller had several take downs, and a never before seen rear-naked-choke attempt on Shields. Sheilds who was saved by the bell.

Gegard Mousasi UNSTOPPABLE!

November 10th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Gegard Mousasi, MMA

Unless Shogun Rua (UFC) and Gegard Mousasi (Strikeforce) go toe-to-toe, I don’t see anyone beating this 24 year old MMA phenom. Maybe Loyoto Machida, maybe Anderson Silva, or maybe Vitor Belfort, but these are the only competitive fights for the young Armenian, light heavy weight champion. And on CBS Sports, Strikeforce Light Heavy Weight Champion Gegard Mousasi, beats down Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Sokoudjou GIVES UP!

November 9th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, MMA, Sokoudjou

I thought Sokoudjou, without question, took the 1st round. He blocked punches, reversed take-downs, had several throws, and he escaped submission attempts. Gegard Mousasi was in for long fight. But somewhere in the 2nd round Sokoudjou stopped fighting. It’s not like Mousasi started to do anything more or less. Sokoudjou just stopped Fighting! No more throws, no more jockying for position, no nothing! JUST STOPPED!

RESPECT Brett Rogers

November 9th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Brett Rogers, MMA

R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!!! Brett Rogers came to fight! I apologize to Rogers, I thought he wouldn’t stand a chance. I was very impressed by everything he showed during his fight with Fedor. Brett showed that strength has the potential to over come, thus the weight class separations. And Brett showed he wasn’t afraid to fight, and to persevere. His ground and pound over Fedor was jaw dropping. No one could believe what they were seeing. Eventually lack of experience and lack of certain skills prevented his win. Fedor Emelianenko found his swing and threw it like David vs Goliath. One shot took the Giant Brett Rogers down!!! I would love to see Brett get a second chance. Brett Rogers is here to stay.

FEDOR WINS AGAIN!!!

November 9th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Fedor Emelianenko, MMA

All the nay sayers got their first glimpse of hope when Brett Rogers broke Fedor Emelianenko’s nose with Brett’s first thrown punch, Brett’s left jab. Then Fedor fans held their heart pounding chests, and caught their breathes in there throat. An entire first round went buy, in which Brett Rogers clearly won. Fedor threw several blocked punches, and had been ground and pound for the first time ever. Brett Rogers shocked the crowd. Fedor was getting smashed and Rogers looked great. Brett Rogers outperformed the last dozen of Fedor’s challengers.  In fact, I’d say Brett Rogers won the first round.

But then in a split second, in the middle of the 2nd round. Fedor started bouncing around shaking his fists loose. He threw an overhand-right perfectly timed and perfectly struck. Brett Rogers, 280 pounds, got hit with a blow that could be heard to the ends of the highest mezzanine.  DOWN WENT ROGERS! KNOCKED OUT!

Saturday November 7, 2009 is a well put together fight card. Hats off to Strikeforce, the World Wide leader in Mixed Martial Arts. This card promised to be very competitive, and the delivery was right on time. Several evenly matched fights took place including Knock-outs, Submissions, and TKOs. CBS Sports Television (Channel 2 if you live in L.A.) never looked so good.

Fuck Cecil Peoples!!!!!!!!!!

October 25th, 2009 by Brotherlove | No Comments | Filed in 2009, Cecil Peoples, MMA

How many bullshit calls can one man make? Cecil peoples needs to have his eyes checked and quit judging forever. I can’t think of any other judge who blows more calls than this man. Matt Hamil vs Michael Bisping, Tito Ortis vs Forrest Griffin, Shogun Rua vs Loyoto Machida just to name a few.

cecil-peoples-mma-judge

The betting odds as I recollect were 4 -1 in favor of the champion Loyoto Machida. Now I ain’t no mathematician, but these odds are well worth betting for the underdog, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  If  Shogun doesn’t knock out, or tap out, Loyoto Machida, Las Vegas can’t give away all those 4 – 1 bets. Bad business! And as much as I hate Cecil Peoples who trains out of House Of Champions in Van Nuys California, it was a unanimous decision. All the judges are to blame for giving this one back to Vegas. As the song goes,  “Money, Money Money, MonAy………. MonAy!

FUCK the UFC!!!

October 24th, 2009 by Brotherlove | 2 Comments | Filed in 2009, Anthony Johnson, MMA

UFC-PU 104 STINKS
Like crack, the UFC is addicting, bad for you, and impossible to quit. With their monopoly over the MMA game, they do what ever they need to do in order to keep the fight soap opera alive. If it isn’t a bunch of Reality TV jerk offs, it’s a bunch of padded careers and bullshit judging, and UFC 104 is no exception.

ufc-logo-mma

For example, Anthony Johnson vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Anthony Johnson, a natural light heavyweight, 186 – 205,  might be able to cut weight to fight in the middleweight division 171 – 185, but this pussy cuts weight to fight two classes lower, the welterweight division 156 – 170. This mother fucker is 6’2″ fighting in a division of guys averaging 5’8″.  He looks like a skeleton with muscles on the frickin’ scale, and is still 6 pounds overweight, at 176. The UFC and Anthony Johnson should be ashamed of putting any opponent in such a lopsided fight. If George St. Pierre needs a fight, I can think of several guys who can step up. Jake Shields, Shinya Aoki, and Hayato Sakurai could all put St. Pierre on his ass. G-d Damn UFC, a light heavyweight in the welterweight division, FUCK YOU!?!?!?!?
